‘Very Best Top Ten’ Volunteer Award Winners Announced

MIRAMICHI – Come join us…. the Miramichi Young Professionals and Involved Entrepreneurs (MYPIE ) for our membership kick-off business networking event being held on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 in the Miramichi Online office located at 1750 Water Street. Time is set for 6:00 p.m.
Membership Kick-Off
The membership kick-off will give participants an opportunity to network, meet with MYPIE board members and young volunteers in our community. It is also an opportunity for MYPIE members to renew their membership or for new members to join. The kick off will also offer you an opportunity to purchase a professional business headshot with photography by Larry Lynch.
Benefits of Membership
The benefits of becoming a member Miramichi Young Professionals and Involved Entrepreneurs are numerous. MYPIE offers members an opportunity to be featured on our website, a business listing on the website, access to member events, the opportunity to host a networking event at your place of business, acknowledgement of your successes and awards on our website, and access to other networking events and opportunities throughout the province.
The cost for a one year membership is $30 per person or $10 per student. Paid memberships throughout the months of January and February will be entered into a draw for a one night stay at Casino New Brunswick and breakfast for two. This prize package is sponsored by CHM Management Group Inc., Lynch’s Accounting, Marlin Travel, Helen’s Pool and Garden Supplies, and Danny’s Improvements Inc.
Miramichi Young Professionals and Involved Entrepreneurs (MYPIE) and the Women of Miramichi Entrepreneurial Network (WOMEN) are offering female members an opportunity to join both organizations for a discounted price of $50.
Very Best Top 10 Volunteer Award for Miramichi Volunteers
Miramichi Young Professionals and Involved Entrepreneurs have established a new award for Miramichi volunteers under the age of 45. Nominations for this award officially closed on January 6, 2012. The award recognizes volunteers in the Miramichi community under the age of 45. The award named The Very Best Top 10 recognizes ten young volunteers in our community who dedicate their time to making our community a better place. This initiative is a partnership between Miramichi Young Professionals and Involved Entrepreneurs and Miramichi Online (MO).
Volunteer Award Winners
Miramichi Young Professionals and Involved Entrepreneurs would like to extend congratulations to our 2012 Very Best Top Ten volunteer award winners: Rhonda Carruthers, Tobi Desveaux, Ryan Flynn, Melanie Gilliss-Buckley, Jason Hebert, Pat King, Paula Matchett, John O’Shea, Paddy Quinn, and Claude Schofield.
Our top ten volunteers were selected by an independent judging panel. A total of 23 nominations were received. Our group of judges had the difficult task of narrowing down the nominations. MYPIE selected an independent judging panel of those that were non-members of the Miramichi Young Professionals and Involved Entrepreneurs board and were not employees of Miramichi Online. The ten volunteers will be introduced during our membership kick-off event. They will be featured on a website allowing for the public to vote for their favorite volunteer. The volunteer with the most votes will be awarded a People’s Choice Award during the annual MYPIE Gala and Awards ceremony in April. Voting will commence at the end of January at www.miramichisbest.com
Paula Morand award winning entrepreneur featured at training event
MYPIE and WOMEN will be co-hosting a training event on February 29, 2012 at the Howard Johnson Hotel starting at 6:00 p.m. that features Paula Morand, an award-winning entrepreneur, best-selling author, broadcaster and founder of Jumpstart 720. Open to men and women interested in improving their sales pitch to leave a lasting first impression the tickets are $15 per member and $20 per non-member. Tickets must be purchased in advance. 4th Annual Gala and Awards Ceremony
Miramichi Young Professionals and Involved Entrepreneurs has set the date of Saturday, April 21 for our 4th annual gala and awards ceremony. We are now seeking nominations for our annual awards given to an entrepreneur, a professional and a community champion of the year under the age of 45 in our community. Nominations will close on Friday, March 9,2012 and nomination forms can be found on our website: www.mypie.ca
Award recipients for each of these awards will be revealed on the night of the ceremony along with the People’s Choice award which will be given to the top volunteer who received the most votes online from the top 10 list. The evening promises to be an exciting night and gives an opportunity for those in attendance to learn more about the young entrepreneurs, professionals and volunteers in our community. Last year, Scott Campbell of Incline Sports was named MYPIE’s Entrepreneur of the Year. Adam Hayward was named MYPIE’s Professional of the Year and Tracey ‘Chopper’ Robinson was named MYPIE’s Community Champion of the Year. Ticket sales for this event will commence in February and details can be found on the MYPIE website.
MYPIE and NBCC Partnership continues
MYPIE continues to support NBCC Miramichi students by providing them with business networking and event planning opportunities. Three business administration students were voted to the MYPIE board at the annual general meeting. Andrew Chase, Daniel Donovan and Amber Libby are in their second year of study in the sales and marketing program and are a welcome addition to our organization. These students, and their classmates, will be involved in planning and organizing the gala and awards ceremony for April as part of their curriculum.
Updates on MYPIE website
MYPIE has updated its website and continues to update news and event information frequently. Many new features were added to the website to improve communication with the public about our members and activities. Each month, a young entrepreneur or professional will be featured on the website under the MY Focus menu. Their outstanding accomplishments and achievements will be highlighted.
In December, Angie Vickers from Bompu Studio was the featured entrepreneur and Joseph Foster of Bright Signs and Printing was featured for the month of January.
Who is MYPIE
Miramichi Young Professionals and Involved Entrepreneurs is a non-profit organization completely self-sufficient and self-governed. It targets the young people of the greater Miramichi region, from entrepreneurs to professionals or simply civic-minded individuals. Whether you are young at heart or a young individual, MYPIE can provide support and information to you or simply enable you to have a voice in the region. All activities and events hosted by MYPIE are open to members and non-members.
