Miramichi Young Professionals and Involved Entrepreneurs hold 4th annual gala and awards night

By Shannon Daley

The network of Miramichi Young Professionals and Involved Entrepreneurs will hold its Fourth annual gala and awards ceremony on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the Miramichi Agricultural Exhibition starting at 6:00 p.m. The ceremony is being sponsored in part, by Allen, Pacquet & Arseneau LLP and Trinity Sounds. The theme for the event is Red carpet and paparazzi, best dressed contests, and a Walk of Fame will add excitement to the event. The evening will focus on the presentation of awards for outstanding

achievements.

Entrepreneur of the Year Award

Our Entrepreneur of the Year Award recognizes and celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit and success found within our younger demographic on the river.  Determination, dynamism and innovation are all words that represent well the young people involved

in the business community of the Miramichi. The award will be presented by last year’s Entrepreneur of the Year, Scott Campbell of Incline Sports.

The award trophy is sponsored by the City of Miramichi.

The 2012 finalists for the Entrepreneur of the Year award are:

Claudia Bryenton, Forton Enterprises

Jason McCarthy, MIECON Services

Julie McCormick, Jule’s K-9 Boarding

Professional of the Year Award

The Professional of the Year Award recognizes a young civic-minded person that has   excelled in their career or industry to date. Whether the achievement touched the lives of a few in your office or of many in the community or in the field of work, this person has the dynamism, positive attitude and drive to excel at what they do on a daily basis. Simply put, this person is an example to all in their fields. The award will be presented by last year’s Professional of the Year, Adam Hayward of School District 16.

The award trophy is sponsored by the City of Miramichi.

The 2012 finalists for Professional of the Year are:

Adam Hambrook, Hambrook Insurance Inc.

Michael McCallum, School District 16

Tyson Theriault, School District 16

Community Champion Award

Community involvement is a trait that we find in all demographics. Our community champion award was created to specifically recognize the drive, generosity, and commitment displayed by a young person in their community. Whether you are a high school student or a professional with ten years of experience, you must have shown

outstanding community involvement, leadership, and a civic-minded attitude. You are one of the ‘doers,’ a mover and a shaker that embraces community spirit and to whom the word volunteer really comes as a second nature. The award will be presented by last year’s Community Champion of the Year, Tracey Chopper Robinson.

The award trophy is sponsored by DowntownS Miramichi, Newcastle Business District.

The 2012 finalists for Community Champion of the Year award are:

Barry Amos

David Gopee

Clarissa Harris-LeBreton

Rhonda Carruthers

Tobi Desveaux

Ryan Flynn

Melanie Gillis-Buckley

These top 10 candidates have been competing for online votes during the past 9 weeks for the Very Best People’s Choice Award sponsored by both the Miramichi Young Professionals and Involved Entrepreneurs and Miramichi Online. The voting by the general public closed on Friday, March 23 and the winner will be revealed at our gala event.

Nominations process

The Miramichi Young Professionals and Involved Entrepreneurs (MYPIE) held an open nomination process during the month of February for nominations in our Entrepreneur, Professional, and Community Champion categories. Nomination forms were available online at www.mypie.ca. A number of nominations were received for all categories and

all nominations closed on March 9. An independent judging panel was formed to select the three finalists in each category along with the winners who will be revealed at the ceremony. We wish to extend our congratulations to all of the finalists.

Meet n’ Greet

The awards ceremony will include a meet and greet a delicious three course meal and the honoring of our finalists in all categories. Recipients will receive a trophy as well as a prize package consisting of different services generously provided from local business sponsors including Peggy McLean, Impact Motivation, Portage Restaurant, CHM  Management Group, Bright Signs and Printing, Town Hill Jewellery and Gifts, Jungle Jim’s, Pizza Delight, Bompu Studio, and Beaubear Credit Union.

Red Carpet Theme

In honour of the Red Carpet Theme, guests should come dressed to impress in business or semi-formal attire. As part of the evening activities, we will be hosting a best-dressed contest where guests can vote for each other within the following five categories: best-dressed man, best-dressed woman, best-dressed couple, best woman’s shoes and best man’s tie. Prizes for these categories have been provided by business sponsors. Guests will have another opportunity to win more prizes throughout

the evening by participating in the ‘balloon pop’ fundraiser sponsored by “I Love Balloons, Event Planning & Services” of Miramichi. Balloons will be available for purchase at any point during the evening before the ‘pop’, and guests can purchase

as many balloons as they desire to increase their odds of winning.

New Brunswick Community College – Miramichi Business Administration Students

This is the second year that the gala is being organized by the business administration students at NBCC Miramichi as part of their marketing curriculum. We are pleased to see NBCC Miramichi business students gain valuable experience and skill sets by organizing this event for MYPIE. Back by popular demand, NBCC students Andrew

Chase and Daniel Donovan will be the masters of ceremonies. Talented photographer and NBCC student, Amber Libby will be the paparazzi and official event decorator. NBCC students Christina Chamberlain and Jessica MacDonald have been actively involved in coordinating sponsorships, budgeting and fundraising for this gala event.

Student ticket sponsors for the event include:

WOMEN, Danny’s Improvements Eavestroughing,

Lisa McCormack, and Helen Ward-Wakelin.
